STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich., July 27, 2026 — Democratic candidate for Michigan’s 58th House District Katrina Manetta out-raised the incumbent she is running to replace, State Rep. Ron Robinson, in the July pre-primary reporting period. In her first campaign, Manetta raised $82,534 to Robinson’s $76,910, and she did it with $0 in corporate PAC money. Add a $6,250 late contribution from EMILYs List and $1,500 from AFL-CIO Michigan, both filed just after the deadline, and the cycle total climbs to $90,284.
It is the strongest pre-primary filing any first-time candidate has posted for Michigan’s 58th District since it was redrawn in 2022, and by a long shot. Manetta ranks in the top 9% of all 210 candidates who filed statewide, from both parties.
The filing reflects broad local support. Manetta reported 277 individual donors, with 90% of gifts $100 or less. About 63% of her money came from Macomb County, compared to roughly 25% of Robinson’s. Robinson only reported 53 individual donors, meaning Manetta’s donor base is roughly five times larger than the incumbent’s.
The difference goes deeper than the donor count. 73% of Robinson’s, $55,805, came from Lansing PACs and corporations, including DTE Energy and Blue Cross Blue Shield, the same companies driving up utility and health care bills across the district.
Manetta’s is one of the most independent and grassroots-funded campaigns in the field, built on individual donors, labor, and issue based organizations, with $0 in corporate PAC money, and less party-leadership money than any competitive-seat Democrat who filed a strong number this period.
„Government should answer to voters, not donors,“ Manetta said. „You can’t buy my vote, and you never will. This seat belongs to the people who live here. Voters are used to being sold out by corporations and insiders. I’m not that. I stand on the side of the people I intend to represent.“
