STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich., May 2, 2026 — Katrina Manetta released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s April 29th decision in Louisiana v. Callais:
«This week’s Supreme Court decision weakens one of the core protections that helps ensure every American has a fair voice in our elections. That should concern all of us, no matter our party.
In a democracy, people choose their representatives. Representatives should not be able to choose their voters.
Here in Macomb County, people already feel like the system does not always work for them. Decisions like this only deepen that frustration and make it harder for people to trust that their voice matters, especially for Black communities and other communities of color who have historically faced barriers to fair representation.
We need leaders who take that seriously.
At the state level, that means doing everything we can to protect fair maps, fair access to the ballot, and elections people can have confidence in. It also means focusing on the issues people are dealing with every day, because when people feel ignored on the basics, trust in government breaks down even further.
I am running because it should not feel this hard for people to be heard.
We can protect the integrity of our elections and make government work better for everyday people at the same time. That is the standard I will bring to Lansing.«
