STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich., Oct. 28, 2026 — State Representative Donavan McKinney, who currently represents Michigan’s 11th State House District and is the Democratic nominee for the state’s 13th Congressional District, has endorsed Katrina Manetta in her campaign for the Michigan House of Representatives in District 58.
McKinney defeated incumbent U.S. Representative Shri Thanedar in the August Democratic primary. A former labor organizer with SEIU Healthcare Michigan, McKinney has built his political career around advocating for working families, economic opportunity, and communities that have often been overlooked by government.
“Katrina Manetta is exactly the kind of new leadership Michigan needs in Lansing. She will bring fresh eyes and enthusiasm to the State House that is desperately needed. District 58 will be lucky to have such a hard-working woman in their corner,” McKinney said.
Like McKinney, Manetta entered politics through grassroots organizing rather than traditional political career paths. A lifelong Shelby Township resident who has spent the past decade working in the service industry, Manetta is running to bring firsthand experience with the challenges facing working families to the state Legislature.
“Donavan understands what it means to fight for working people because he’s lived many of the same struggles,” Manetta said. “He’s taken that experience into public service and shown why it matters to have people in office who understand what families are going through. That’s what I’m fighting to bring to the 58th District. We need leaders who remember who they’re there to serve and are willing to do the work to make people’s lives better.”
McKinney’s endorsement adds to a growing coalition of elected officials, labor unions, and grassroots organizations supporting Manetta’s campaign. His support follows a September endorsement from former state Representative Nate Shannon, who previously represented the 58th District for six years.
Born, raised, and still living in Shelby Township, Manetta is challenging Republican incumbent Ron Robinson in the November election. Her campaign is focused on lowering costs for working families, protecting workers’ rights, strengthening public safety and education, and bringing greater accountability to state government.
Michigan’s 58th House District includes parts of Sterling Heights, Warren, Utica, and Shelby Township and is widely considered one of the most competitive districts in the state.
